How It Works

How Required Materials Works

Our calculators turn common project measurements into fast, practical material estimates using standard formulas and default UK assumptions.

Step 1: Choose the right calculator

Each calculator is designed around a specific project type, such as patios, concrete, gravel, paint, brickwork, decking, insulation or flooring. Pick the tool that best matches the job you are pricing or planning.

Step 2: Enter your measurements

Most calculators use project dimensions such as length, width, height or depth. Some also include practical assumptions like wastage, coverage rates, slab sizes, joint thicknesses, joist spacing or board lengths.

Step 3: Review the estimate

The result gives a quick estimate of the quantities needed based on the information entered and the default assumptions shown on the page. Many calculators also have SEO preset pages that pre-populate common project sizes and show the expected output straight away.

Important note

All calculations are intended as guides. Before ordering or starting work, measurements, product specifications and site conditions should be checked carefully by the user or a qualified professional.

Disclaimer

Material quantities shown are estimates for guidance only. Although typical UK wastage and compaction allowances have been included, actual requirements may vary depending on site conditions, installation methods, and material differences. Please confirm quantities with your installer or supplier before ordering. We accept no liability for inaccuracies, financial loss, or delays arising from the use of these estimates.
